Smectite is probably unstable relative to other clay minerals, such as illite and zeolite. Considering that filiform mordenite is replacing the smectite, we suggest that mordenite formed by recrystallization involving a solidstate transformation. Under high fluid/rock ratios, smectite seems to have formed in the early stage of alteration.

this is a discipline that requires a solid base, involving mineralogy, geology and mineral processing knowledge. I reckon, geometallurgy is more a specialization rather than a degree. That is why, it is quite easy to find certificates, diplomas and even masters related with geomet.
Mining Engineering Students on Field Trip. The copper ore is crushed and then ground to a fine powder in Ball Mills. The fine ore goes to banks of Flotation Cells in the Copper Concentrator, and the Copper Sulfide Minerals are collected on bubbles. The Concentrate is dried and .

of the state's bedrock (the solid rock under the soil) and in the gravels at the bottom of some streams (as placer deposits). When gold is found in the bedrock, it usually occurs in veins – long, narrow mineral rich "streaks." It is removed by breaking up the rock and removing the gold. These hard rock mining techniques have been

cyanide heap leaching is used by mining companies to level entire mountains of rock containing only small concentrations of gold. To extract the gold, miners spray a solution of highly toxic cyanide salts (which react with gold) onto huge openair piles of crushed rock. The solution then drains into storage ponds (Figure 141).

Because minerals are crystals, dissimilar elements must occur in fixed ratios to one another. However, complete free substitution of very similar elements (, Mg+2 and Fe+2 which are very similar in charge (valence) and radius) is very common and usually results in a crystalline solution (solid solution).

In the early period of mining REEs, they were mined primarily from placer deposits, which are mineral accumulations in rivers and on beaches. Placer deposits form when minerals are separated by density as lighter minerals remain suspended and more dense minerals are deposited along the riverbed.
